The Chicago Cubs keep their road trip in Pittsburgh from the Pirates this weekend. It’s been matter how abysmal they have been on the street in 2019 which has been the recurring motif about them in Philadelphia against the Phillies. The Cubs were trapped at a three-game series, concluding with a walk-off grand slam by Bryce Harper on Thursday night.
Pedro Strop got his team to trouble back, since he allowed 2 earned runs with no outs and Derek Holland followed his guide to finish the match off with an at-bat contrary to Harper. For those issues he has had striking out in the plate, Harper’s WPA paths only Christian Yelich of the Brewers. His slam propelled that number even higher.
For the Cubs, their crime had a hangover against the Pirates last night, even as they made nothing against Joe Musgrove before getting to him in the 8th inning by placing a runner on 3rd with 1 out. The operation with Kyle Hendricks was a welcome signal, as was the effort of Yu Darvish on Thursday night. It’s a difficult bullet to take after you get production from Darvish and Hendricks then have nothing in return, however charge to Hendricks for maintaining the Cubs from the sport a night past.
He gets the match ball for storing them in the match to provide Tony Kemp an chance for a go-ahead triple. Trusting the Cubs’ bullpen to close the game out in the 9th was a little too much to ask, however. Jon Lester will get the call to your Cubs on Saturday at PNC Park.
Lester was distressed for a bounce back operation in his last outing, and he was not ideal, but was considerably better than he was formerly pitching. The confidence in his step appeared to be back. Conversely, the Steven Brault will counter to the Pirates. The Pirates will likely soon be seeking just their fourth win since August 3rd, as they have gone 3-9 in their past 12 outings. One of those wins came on a walk. Head below to our complimentary Cubs vs. Pirates pick.

Steven Brault has had a standout career within his four-year profession, but he’s at least been always average. Brault has a career ERA of 4.57 and he’s hovered around that mark fairly well his whole career in the major leagues. He is on pace to get a career-high having an ERA of 4.33 going into Saturday. In his past three outings, Brault published a 4.50 ERA in 14 innings pitched. He hasn’t overly high or too low throughout his career.
Consistency like this can make a pitcher a great deal of money for a centre of the rotation alternative. He is coming off what might have been a much better performance against the Cardinals. Brault allowed 4 earned runs in 4.2 innings of work, with surrendered 5 hits and 3 walks too.
The Cubs have ruined Brault in his career. They are hitting .343 using a .452 OBP at 102 at-bats from Brault. The Cubs have also scored 24 runs on Brault in that interval. If they are successful against Brault in the plate again, they might not have to be concerned about the bullpen blowing a lead.
Lester has allowed 23 runs into the Pirates, but using much more plate appearances than the Cubs have had against Brault. The Bucs are hitting against .255 contrary to Lester in 231 at-bats. They are hitting just .242 against lefties about the season instead of .269 vs right-handed pitching.
The Cubs input Saturday on a four-game losing streak with declines in six of their past seven games, all which have come on the street. How much more pathetic can it get for the Cubs? I think that they find it to avoid more embarrassment and prevent collapsing on Saturday behind Lester. The Cubs probably return on course for the moment at Pittsburgh in this one.
