The 32-year-old created 14 of 16 field goals last season, including a 63-yarder which was tied for second-longest from NFL history.
The good news for the Panthers is that kicker Joey Slye has been shown to be a replacement for Gano. Slye was 7-for-8 in preseason field objectives, including three out of yards. His only miss came to a field goal at last night’s 25-19 win against the Steelers.
If the Panthers need to attract Gano back in any point later in the calendar year, they’ll have to have to hold him on their initial roster, which means maintaining two kickers and then put him on injured reserve. He’d be out for the whole season, if they put him on injured reserve .
