In the words of Sir Mix-a-Lot, double-up that is uh uh-uh. We have got Wednesday night’s game (10:07 p.m. ET, ESPN) between the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics on tap, following upon our award-atomizing preview of Tuesday’s contest. That game was not too tricky to deal with; the Yankees faded because beginning pitcher Domingo German is overvalued from the marketplace. Seems like we weren’t alone in this assessment. On Tuesday’s MLB chances board, the A’s have moved from at that time.
Wednesday’s game is going to be a bit harder. J.A. Happ (5.55 FIP) is starting for the Yankees, whereas Mike Fiers (4.77 FIP) reacts for Oakland. It is an advantage for the A’s, although not sufficient for us to place the home side as –110 favorites. Perhaps that 9.5-run total will be more to our liking.
Maybe. Our panel of quants could have other ideas, however:
FiveThirtyEight per cent
Allergic Odds (using SBR Odds Converter): –104
Jeff Sagarin’s Generic Total (approx.) : 9.25-9.5 runs
Since you can see, there is room to the moneyline to pick on either side in this struggle. The total is tight, also. There may be a very small opening to recommend that the”under” for a small sum, but we’re going to call an audible and give the”above” a chance rather, dependent on a few factors — including the weather. Wednesday forecast calls for mostly clear skies and temperatures in the mid-70s, which should help improve the conduct total in what is otherwise a pitcher’s park.
